Reader Rabbit Kindergarten is an educational adventure game based on the characters from the popular and long-running series of learning games for young children, Reader Rabbit. Intended for children ages 3-6, the game is designed to teach basic skills to prepare kids for success in kindergarten and provide a foundation for further learning. The game's main character, Reader Rabbit, and his sidekick, Sam the Lion, are flying their airship over a new island when they are mysteriously captured by a giant bubble wrap. They then come to realize they have landed in Balloon Town, an island made of balloons where all sharp objects including their airship are locked away in a palace. In order to free their airship and continue on their journey, they must first gain access to the palace by helping the band wake-up the sleeping bull in front of the palace. To do this they must gather the 5 different instruments for the band that have been scattered around Balloon Town. In order to receive an instrument, players must help Reader Rabbit and Sam in a series of educational mini-games designed to teach kids basic skills such as memory, recognizing patters, simple math, phonics, rhyming, following directions and placing items in order. All mini-games have simplistic point-and-click controls using the Wii Remote. Once players have retrieved all of the instruments and gained access to the palace, they must complete two more mini-games (a listening comprehension/sequencing game and a reading skills game) before gaining access to their airship so they can continue on to a new adventure. The game is presented in a colorful cartoon style with short videos, full voice acting, and sing-along songs designed to engage young children while still teaching basic skills. Players will be able to adjust the difficulty level of all mini-games independently which can add hours of replay value.

4Fun but too short  Jun 28, 2011 By Cappy
I was thrilled that my son really enjoyed this game. He was so anxious to collect all of the instrument pieces rewarded for individual skills. I was hearing a chorus of angels singing in my head - thinking it would help provide kindergarten review practice over the summer months. 2 hours later he finished the game. So far he hasn't had any interest in repeating it. Maybe in a few weeks...

One thing that irritated me about the game is that if a child doesn't respond to a problem quickly the lion and rabbit make comments like "we don't have all day". It didn't seem to bother my son but I thought it inappropriate. Just sayin...

5Excellent inexpensive educational learning tool  Jun 21, 2011 By Jeff
I thought that I would give the Reader Rabbit Kindergarten game a try because of the low cost and the fact that it is educational. I was really surprised by how my my son liked to play and learn from the game.

There are Reader Rabbit 1st Grade and Reader Rabbit 2nd Grade Wii games sold on Amazon as well. I am going to purchase those once my son masters the Kindergarten game.

2Is good for practicing skills, not learning them  Feb 22, 2012 By Kathryn Mathis
Our 5 1/2 year old is struggling with reading due to an Auditory Processing Disorder, so we were trying to create more fun opportunities to learn the reading skills in addition to the typical work we were already doing with her. We thought this game would be ideal for that and she was very excited to play it. Once we started though, we were all pretty disappointed. The graphics in the game are pretty bad, but that's not much different than some of the other kids Wii games we've purchased. What was frustrating for us as parents and particularly for our daughter was that this game wasn't built on actually teaching any of the reading skills at all. You have to already know all the things they're teaching; this is simply practice to solidify the skills. It's not made like the Reader Rabbit I remember using as a child.
We've only used the game three times and each time our daughter has ended up in tears because it's very frustrating for her. It may be fun for a kindergartener that is already able to read well, but not for a child that is struggling. We ended up just going to ReadingEggs.com and while it's not what we wanted initially, it has been incredibly beneficial.

3Can't skip the meaningless chit chat  Mar 29, 2012 By ownedbylins
It's alright for a kids' game I guess. The graphics are of course not great. There's a whole lot of talking from the characters and you can't skip through it. My 3 year old plays it just fine after I taught her how.

25 Year Old was bored  Sep 01, 2011 By Silly Runner "Silly Runner"
I purchased this for my five year old since he was getting into playing the wii and wanted purchase something fun and educational. He played the game one time and then never wanted to play it again. He said, "This game is boring".

I will update this review if he begins playing it again.
