love fishing Aug 20, 2010 Played Rapala Bass Fishing on PS2, found this one to be the most similar. LOVE IT!!!
I dont use the rod/ reel attachment, just the wii remote, and it works great. No need for extra money on other needless gear.
Have fun!

Excellent game for the money! Jul 30, 2009 This is a lot of fun to play. There are many different types of fish and locations. My only complaint is that the instructions don't tell you how to net a fish (use your controller to put the little yellow "net" on the "fish" and some letters/numbers will appear on top of the big yellow circle, push those letters/numbers in sequence, one at a time, and you will net the fish).
This game does require some knowledge of fishing, has a few digital glitches, and is a commercial for Rapala; that being said, I think it is the best fishing game out there for the money, and provides hours of semi-realistic fishing fun.
I recommend this game to any fisherperson out there who can't really go fishing today.

Complete and utter waste of time and money. Jul 28, 2009 I purchased "Rapala Tournament Fishing" partly because my wife saw the package, her eyes popped open (she loves fishing) and said "oooh! Honey lets get this!". Another part was due to the fact that I saw the Activision logo on it and thought "well it's got to be good because it is an Activision title". I couldn't have been more mistaken in my life.
This game is BAD, embarrassingly bad. Horrifically, monstrously, embarrassingly bad. College graduates could do a better job making this game. I'm a software developer and I just sat through 10 minutes of the game and thought the whole time, "do they not have a QA (Quality Assurance) department??!". Honestly I don't have the words to describe how bad this game is. I would have to invent new words to describe the utter and completely monstrous level of failure that this game has managed to achieve.
Let me give you a few examples. While playing the game, if you aren't reeling in and you move the pole, the lure doesn't move. Obviously the developers had never fished in their lives because in real life, if you move the pole the lure moves.
Here's a second example. If you reel in the lure and just stop, in the game the lure just stops wherever it's at. In real life it will sink or float, not stay put like it's in suspended animation.
Thirdly if you reel a fish in. In real life, it will avoid the bottom of the boat. Not stay suspended halfway through it for a few minutes.
Fourth, if you manage to catch a large fish, you have to net it. Well I tried 10 different times, and couldn't get the little "netting the fish" minigame to work for me at all.
Fifth, the manual is a joke, it doesn't tell you anything you can't figure out for yourself just playing the game. The ONLY useful part of the manual is an email address to send comments on just how much you "enjoyed" the game. Which for me was a resounding zero.
Honestly I can not believe anyone would even think about selling a game this bad. I can see now that Activision has completely lost it's focus on games and quality. I will think twice and probably three times before EVER purchasing another Activision title. I will also not be buying Rapala lures from now on.
When I went to the Activision website, to express my extreme disappointment I found that the Activision website is obviously only tested with Internet Explorer. It doesn't work too well with Firefox 3.5. On top of that it is broken on the page to enter in a message for customer support, it simply does not work. I see their web designers are every bit as competent as their game developers, which is even more embarrassing. Plus its even further evidence that Activision has no QA department what-so-ever.
When I went to the Rapala website, there is absolutely NO option to send an email to them what-so-ever. I really felt it necessary to write a letter of disappointment expressing how bad this game is and what a bad name it gives Rapala. But alas it appears that neither Activision nor Rapala care.
On a scale from 0 to 10, I couldn't possibly think of a fraction small enough for this game. Stay away from this game, stay far away from it. I'll be trying other fishing games soon.

Not actual fishing, but not bad Jun 09, 2009 I've been looking for a realistic fishing game for the WII (or ANY console, for that matter). This one fits the bill about as well as any other. I like the fact that you can change your view to either underwater or over-the-shoulder. Personally, I think the o-t-s view makes the game more realistic. As for all the bad reviews based solely on figuring out the controls, my 5-year-old with Cerebral Palsy was fishing completely on her own after showing her how to cast, set the hook, and land the fish twice. She still needs help switching between fishing/boat mode and landing the fish with a net, but the bottom line is that this game is NOT that difficult to pick up and play.
Couple of mild downsides to this game is that you progress through different types of tournaments and the descriptions are not readily available. You have to go back to the menu screen and wait for the tournament description to scroll up in order to be reminded of the goals. Same thing with lure information. It would have been nice to be able to control the speed at which the text scrolls, but this isn't a deal breaker for me. The only other real down side that I've run in to is that ALL the lures are hard Rapala lures, which somewhat limits the real fishing experience. Again, not a deal breaker. It just keeps it from being a "virtual reality" type game. And to all the reviewers who say the guide is annoying and doesn't offer any help, you might want to try actually taking the guide's advice. When he says, "I don't think there are any fish here," guess what...you probably aren't going to catch any fish at that location. Move the boat. When he says, "I don't think that lure is the right color," try a different colored lure. It's not rocket science!
All in all, this game pretty much does what I bought it to do, which is give me a fairly realistic escape from everyday life out to a lake somewhere catching fish. And at the price you can pick it up on Amazon, it's well worth it. At the end of the day, it's a GAME. Don't expect everything to work exactly the way it does in real life. Just like you can't play a NASCAR game and then go out and actually win the Daytona 500, or play a golf game and expect to come anywhere NEAR making the PGA tour, there are some things in life that are missing from this game, but it's still fun.
NEEDS INSTRUCTIONS!! Mar 29, 2009 I got his for my husband. We set it up and had to go on the internet just to figure out how to cast. The instructions are worthless. After 30 minutes of trying, my husband just said, "I don't like it." But he kept with it and now is OK with it, but not thrilled. I wish I would've gotten it used somewhere. We are not impressed.
