My 10 year old is enjoying it. This is a flexable game good for the younger horsie-crowd that can read.
The game has nice 'rehabilitate/help the mustangs on the conservatory' storyline with objectives you need to follow and complete to enter the equestrian events.
The colors are also gentle and realistic, not cartoony or gaudy. A very encouraging game.
Game objectives can be found if you forget them by pressing the + key on the wii remote; you need to follow the objectives to get further in the game, for instance: my daughter was grooming her horse, as per the objective, and it would say she wasn't done grooming; then she realized when she pressed the + key she had been grooming the wrong horse.
A green arrow shows you the direction in which to ride; the game is a gentle one, built to not confuse, which is nice. The rein movements seems realistic, takes a little playing to master, but is doable with nunchuck and wiimote.
(Tip aim the nunchuck and wiimote at the tv, and to turn your horse left or right, turn only ONE of your left or right wrists like you're turning a dial - so the top of your thumb turns outwards on either hand - right, for turning right and left hand for turning left. we made the mistake of trying to point the front of both the wiimote or nunchuck in th direction we wanted to go rather than keep you rhands stationary pointing forward and then 'turning' them outwards in a turn-a-dial motion.) Vastly improves control, and Altai, is the most responsive horse, and seems like the fastest too.
The furstration level is very low. Check your objectives by pressing the + button. The booklet inside explains much of what you need to know.
It's a compassionate storyline; I'm impressed with the lack of sarcasm or harshenes. So far my daughter's only irk is that she can only keep two horses, the other revert back to where you first found and tamed them, tho you don't need to retame, just climb abord any previously-tamed horse - so if/when you gaint the trust of a new wild mustang, you have to set one of the two already there.
You can ride around at will and ignore the objectives until you choose to complete the current one, so in effect, freestyle ride anytime.
My daughter's also realized that the signs on the road, the signposts, flash in the direction you're supposed to go, which, in addition to the arrow, is very helpful--we just didn't notice it right away.
A solid horse-lover's buy at this point, which is very nice. Will update when any of the four equestrian events becomes unlocked.
*** Update:
two or so weeks later, this has remained a fun game with GREAT and logical horse reign controls. Challanging events (great encouragement even when you do everything wrong but get one thing right!) and fun free-riding and gathering fruit for each horse type, etc. The equestrian events tend to repeat as you move thru the storyline, but it's still exciting to excell and progress.
This is really a sweetheart of a game. It makes physical sense wih the wiimote and has enough drama to keep you interested and positivity and goodness to make kids feel like great horsewomen and horsemen -- and conservationists.
We are up to about 35 wii games now, and this is one of the best, and my daughter likes it more than littlest petshop, sims pets 2, me and my horse, or pet sportz, all for the wii which were bought around the same time. I think the kindness factor touches a cord in horse lovers. Very gentle game.
*** Update #2. We finished the storyline today. Not too complex but never fustrating -- a satisfying little storyline. There are six more events to unlock after the storyline. Very gentle game, good for younger girls too.
(Regarding two other horse titles on the wii, we bought, 'Me and My Horse', and it has the most frustrating controls compared to this fun pick-up-and-play game. Not recommended at this time, I nearly went nuts trying to control that horse. Four other people had the same problem.
We also grabbed, "Gallop & Ride", for the wii and are enjoying that, tho it's a different and far more indepth horse game with horse-mane braiding, horse breeding, changing clothes, reading horse books, health maintenance, a more sensitive horse when grooming, credit-earning in order to shop and buy and feed your horse, buy it medicines; also you you maintain and upkeep and repair with hundreds of horse combinations to create; the riding is very fun, and you can change the controls to the nunchuck control stick instead of pretending rein actions which is a lot easier. really detailed and emersible game for horse lovers. recommended -just an fyi side-by-side comparassion if you love horse titles of the three i've bought on the wii so far.)

I played this game on the PC first because at the time I bought it, it was the cheaper of the two. However, the PC version does not play on laptops. Maybe it's just my laptop, but I doubt it because on the box it says it may have issues when playing on a laptop. Horsez is always best on the Wii and I wanted a game that I could take with me when I moved so I finally bought the Wii version. Yet I was extremely disappointed to find that my favourite part of the game (and perhaps the only reason I bought the Wii version) had been meaninglessly deleted. That is the breeding aspect. I loved the detailed customization available to you in the PC version and assumed it would be in the Wii version as well. Breeding was available in the precursor title, Horsez 2, and I see no reason why it was not included.
Because of this, I would have to say that Horsez 2 was a better game. It is still fun and there are more horse colors available (that is if you tame each horse, yet even then you can only ride stallions in the competitions or bonus challenges).
I cannot judge if the game is better on PC or Wii since there were significant issues with both.
Note: Another seemingly meaningless delete compared to the PC version was the practice/qualification you had to pass before each competition. It didn't bother me as much as the breeding, but I still would have liked to have all the features to have been the same for each game.

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter, who loves horses. I was hoping it wouldn't be too "childish" for her. Not only does she love it, but her 12 year old brother wants to play it all the time, too! It's been a lot of fun watching them figure out this game together.

This is a very fun Wii game to play especially if you are a horse lover. It is fun for all ages! My daughter who is not a horse lover got hooked playing this game too. This game got here in a timely manner and was in excellent condition with the booklet intact.

I love it...except for the story line! Dec 29, 2008

I really enjoy playing this game! If you want just a simulation with no story line this isn't the gam for you! But I still love it because even if you are collecting saliva samples you still get to ride gorgeous horses! Using the "reins" is kind of difficult but once you understand how it becomes incredibly simple!
