Mario tennis review May 11, 2010 My six year old grandson played this game for about four to six weeks straight after we purchased it. He couldn't have enjoyed himself more.
The Same Great Game With New Controls May 01, 2010 Really there is nothing wrong here because Nintendo advertises this game as being a classic Gamecube game with the updated Wii control and that's precisely what it does, they did the same for Pikmin and DK Junglebeat. Some will question the release of Mario Power Tennis on the Wii but it's understandable because with the Wii you get more out of this Gamecube game. I don't think this MPT game will please many of the fans of the Gamecube version because it doesn't bring anything new this time except the controls, if they're looking for new features they will be deceived, however if they want to just play the original with the Wii's control abilities they should buy it. I find that the controls work better when you use both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk instead of just the Wiimote, it's more precise and I got a better feeling overall. Still the controls are hard to master, if you want to a certain type of shot you may end up doing something else. Some fans of the original will notice this and think how easy it was with a Gamcube controller to aim and be precise. The controls are a little flawed so if you are sceptical about them you should probably rent it before buying.
The game is simple you play as one of the Mario character and you can choose between exhibition, tournaments, mini-games and training modes. In addition to playing tennis you character can do "power moves" which are special abilities to do a more powerful shot. It's one of the Wii's only tennis games and in my opinion its better than Sega Superstars Tennis so there's really no competition and if you own a Wii and like tennis you should consider this. The graphics are very much the same I noticed very little difference, it focuses more on the fact that you can use the Wii controls to play it more than anything else. It's the exact same game just on the Wii, it would have been nice to get something new, like a new cup to make it somewhat different and give a bonus to those who played the original before.
I think it was aimed at a new audience who had never played Mario Tennis before and those who have played Wii Sports which comes with the Wii and loved the tennis game on it, those people are likely to enjoy this game and should buy it. I rate Mario Power Tennis 3-3½ stars, no new content but it's more fun to play with the Wiimote than the Gamecube controller plus at this price (and you can easily pick it up under $30 pretty much everywhere games are sold) it doesn't hurt your wallet and remains the great game it always was.
Not as expected. Mar 24, 2010 It's not as fun as I thought. I thought it would be more fast paced and little bit more control using the Wii.
It just wasn't right for us Dec 29, 2009 I loved all my Mario games growing up, so I thought I'd love the tennis game as well. Sadly, the controls weren't accurate, and there are too many special powers of each of the characters that makes the game harder to get through. We played for about 20 minutes and decided to pack it up. I'm now re-listing it for sale. I was disappointed, but perhaps it is because I'm too much older now to enjoy it as I might have in my childhood.
I agree with the previous reviewers ... Controls aren't accurate. Dec 07, 2009 I liked played Tennis on my Wii Sports game and truly expected more from Mario Power Tennis to be alot more better than this. But it's still a fun game to play especially if you play with others but the controls aren't fine tuned. The gamebook suggests alot of different real-life tennis moves but it doesn't matter how you hit it the ball still travels towards the opponent automatically. Only chance of making the game a little better is if you play it in items mode where you get power-up items. Also they didn't add one character that I believe is an important one ... Toadstool. They added others like Baby Bowser and even one of the Turtle guys but not Toadstool. Toadstool and Yoshi are one of my favorite characters from any Mario game. I'd give this game 5 stars but with control flaws and no Toadstool ... I gave what it deserves.
