My WORD! May 29, 2010 This game truly does have an educational help mode. It is a great eye candy to learning words. It has quickened my ability to spew things out. The most difficult one for me, in the beginning, was the Alphabet Soup game. I was never good at unscrambling words like the rest of my family. I still don't enjoy crosswords, but this game has improved my unscrambling ability to a point that I actually enjoy it. My favorite game in the mix is: Split Descision. Words in a closet on hangers, it forces you to decide quickly between the definitions of words. Sometimes I do well in it, and sometimes I do not. But when I don't I still feel encouraged. This game, I bought before I got the Wii. I was planning on collecting hoards of games each month so that when I bought the console I could have a ready stash. My dad bought it for me the next day, as it was my b-day. I love this game, and it works well. One of the best mind and vocublary builders I've seen yet. The downside is that I have no longer am agreeable with learning new words from books. I used to never have a problem with it until then. Course, maybe growth and age has made me careless about book learning, and care more about learning from 21st Century styles and tools, such as, video games. I hope they come out with an advanced version/part II of this before to long. I've had it a year and one month.I also believe that my writing (at 28) has become more interesting that it used to be.

A Real Workout for Your Mind Jan 11, 2010 For those of us who really appreciate the English language, this is a wonderful game. I got it earlier today, and haven't played too much, so I guess a review is probably premature, though I felt the need to come here and say the same things that most other people are saying here--what a fantastic game!
So the game has plenty of mini games that are designed for you to enjoy either alone or with several other people. There aren't too many games that you will play while voluntarily and forcefully learning so many words, and still have fun!
The most important thing about the game is that it actually uses appropriate vocabulary for the individual who is playing the game. You can create up to 8 profiles, so that means pretty much everyone who wishes to play in your family could have a personal profile. With the individualized profiles, each person can work on their own vocab. I was always worried that the words wouldn't be challenging enough, but of course I was wrong. This game really pushes my limits.
As others have already pointed out previously, the game is strictly words and definitions. I would really like to see it include pronunciation of the words as well. The word coaches that you get all have voice acting. It might be a lot of words to have to record, but it would improve the overall quality of the game very much. If this cannot be done, at least include a pronunciation key for each word--and maybe you can push A to check the key or something...
But overall, the lack of pronunciation is not a big deal, as the objective is to teach words and definitions. There are other dictionaries for those words that you really just don't know how to say.
The game keeps track of the words that you miss and will continue to throw them back in your face until it thinks that you understand them finally. I find this really helpful because often we just don't get enough exposure to new words--so we learn them over longer periods of time. This shortens that process by many folds.
Again, those of us who wish to improve our vocabulary and language skills, this game is a perfect way to do it. Despite my grievance about the lack of pronunciation, I still give this game a 5 out of 5 for fun and for overall rating.

Educational Nov 25, 2009 I keeping hearing that this is better on DSi but I don't have one, so I can only talk about the Wii version of this game. Overall, the game is okay. I wouldn't describe it as fun however. Educational, yes. Fun, not so much. There are several game options and a Word Coach to encourage you. I think the disc I have is slightly disfunctional though because my coach will tell me I did well, when I completly screwed up. Using the Wii remote is a little challenging in some of the games, like the Cereal game, because it's difficult to get the letters exactly where you want them all the time (quickly that is). If you already have a large vocabulary then maybe it's not for you, but if you're looking to learn new words then, why not. There are three good things about the game: the learning potential of it all, that you can track your progress and that you can set it up for your age.

Poor Choice of Dictionary Nov 17, 2009 Pros:
The six vocabulary/spelling word games are well-presented and are reasonably fun.
Keeps track of your total new words learned.
Cons:
Low frequency of challenging words
No words used in example sentences
No pronunciation guide
Comments: I enjoyed playing the games and I did learn many new words, but ultimately I was disappointed with this game since most of the new words I learned were recently-coined buzzwords, or were more relevant for grade school students and people learning English as a second language rather than for people looking to learn words that would be found in a collegiate-level dictionary.

A great word game with only dictionary definitions Oct 16, 2009 There are really only dictionary definitions here. No words used in sentences, no multiple scenarios for usage.
But for a dictionary definition game, it's as fun as it can possibly be. And, you get a ton of good repetition in various ways. It's all repetition of the same dictionary definitions, but they do this repetition in various and inventive ways.
The game also adjusts very well to your skill level. And, the words are interesting.
